I've used a safety razor for over 12 years. I've used an Edwin Jagger, a Benjamin Barber, and most recently a Merkur 38C. The Futur razor is unlike any of the previous ones. Where to start? The blade sits very close to the top of the razor, which brings the blade closer but also creates a more scraping sound while shaving. The shaving experience feels much closer. Even at 3 out of 6 settings, the razor feels more aggressive than the others I've had. I tried the most aggressive angle and cut myself pretty quickly just by not carefully considering the angle at which I was holding the razor. I cut myself because the blade rested against the skin at the wrong angle. Beginner's mistake! The razor's head is bulky and surrounded by a lot of metal. This makes it difficult to get close around the nose (depending on your build). However, the aggressive angle of the blade makes it very handy for trimming sideburns, etc. I've started shaving different areas at different angles and therefore adjust it to be less aggressive when the razor can't be angled in well, for example, on the upper lip. However, cheeks and neck can be shaved more aggressively. The problem is that when adjusting the razor, it's done by rotating the razor's head, and it's easy to slip with a slippery razor. So every time a towel needs to be held nearby when adjusting the razor. Am I satisfied? Overall, yes! Had I expected a bit more? Yes! I probably anticipated a more convenient razor.
