A shaving knife with exchangeable blades (a shavette) is very closely related with the classic shaving knife (the cut-throat) with the difference that the blades can be changed in a shavette, just as with safety razors.

The sharpness of a shaving knife with exchangeable blades are, of course, depending on which blade you choose to use. But regardless which blade you choose this type of straight razor is usually sharper than the classic straight razor. It is very hard, not to say impossible, to hone a conventional shaving knife to the same sharpness as a razor blade.
