A perfume never smells the same when you spray it as it does after a few hours. The perfume's three fragrance notes are what determine how the scent changes on your skin over time.

The top note is what you feel first and is usually a light and fresh scent. It smells for 10-15 minutes before the heart note becomes clearer. The heart note stays for 2-4 hours and has time to mix with your own body odour. It determines how a particular perfume smells on you. Finally, the base note emerges, which stays on the skin the longest. For at least six hours you can detect the base note, which is often a sweeter and heavier scent.
