Lapping Paste Green
This green lapping paste containing chromium oxide, a witchbrew green batter shoulde be mixed thoroughly in the pot before use. Lapping paste with Chromium oxide is used to make an overly sharp and aggressive edge slightly softer against the skin.
If you use too much of this paste it makes the edge dull, but proper use makes it comfortable. Be careful when stropping, and take at most 10-20 draws at a time before trying the edge.
Use: The purpose of the paste is to fill the microscopic pores of the leather / canvas / balsa wood, without it being necessary to add as a layer over the entire surface.
Mix well before use, the formula tends to separate when it is stationary. With your fingers, lubricating a generous layer over the abrasive surface and fill any voids. Wipe off excess paste from the surface with a paper towel. Take a new paper towel and wipe again. Repeat until you can barely imagine any grinding paste on the paper napkin. Your strop is now ready for use.
Strop as usual, but with fewer strokes than if you just use plain leather conditioner. Try the knife-edge after each 10 stroke. You may have to experiment a bit before you find a level that suits you and your needs of sharpening.
NOTE: Do not mix different grades of pasta in the same strop. A coarser paste will not disappear until the next time when you might want to use the strop for a finer stropping job.
