Orris

Orris root has a long tradition both as a fragrance and in medical use. The Greeks and Romans used the slightly corrosive fresh juice in cosmetics. In Greece, perfume was also made from the dried root.
In France and England small scented sachettes were used in wardrobes and dressing rooms. In today's perfumes, orris absolute or a tincture on the root is used. The scent is mild and powdery.
