The famous Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner is considered the founder of modern zoology, but as a true 16th-century scholar, he was also a distinguished physician, botanist, linguist, and of course, adventurer.
In his "Descriptio Montis Fracti sive Montis Pilati" from 1555, he recounts his climb to the summit of Mount Pilatus, but we also follow him into the caves of the Alps. ‘At night, the moonlight shines into the cave so brightly that it takes the form of a mist. It gathers on the ceiling and makes the stalactites in the limestone glitter and sparkle. It drips white liquid like tears into an inexhaustible puddle on the stone floor. This is moon milk.’
A massive chord of sandalwood stands at the center, almost making up half of the formula, its different qualities highlighted by the other notes. Lily of the valley and mandarin accentuate the soothing softness, the warmth of the wood is enhanced by cardamom and lime, while the subtly dry texture of the wood is reflected in black tea. A touch of leather adds depth, emphasizing the sandalwood's rich body.
