When trimming your beard, it's a good idea to start with the cheeks and then finish with the chin area. This will trim down the bulge on the sides of the beard. Beards should grow vertically, not horizontally. You will have a beard that grows closer to the skin and, as a bonus, your face will appear slimmer.

The difference between a beard trimmer and a shaver is that the trimmer, as it sounds, trims the beard and/or hair to the desired length, while a shaver is more for those who want a smoother result.
