Match the perfume with the beer
Written by GlenN Lauritz Andersson & Denis Vasilije, fragrance experts
Beer is a favourite drink for many. Today, there is a wide range of beer styles and flavour profiles available. Gents has selected five different beers with distinct characteristics. You may have tasted the beer – but have you tried the perfume? We present some of the most fragrant beers, paired with perfumes that meet them in perfect harmony.

Summary
-
The right perfume can complement or enhance the character of different beers through shared scent notes.
-
Match fragrance tones with a beer’s flavour profile — for example pine needles with citrus notes, or fruity flavours with floral scents.
-
Considering both ingredients and aromas in beer and perfume helps create a harmonious sensory experience.
four stroke ipa – pino silvestre edt
In the glass:
Let’s start with a beer without added aromas or flavourings: FOUR STROKE IPA from Höganäs Bryggeri. Here, the hop varieties Mosaic and Citra take centre stage. American hops often evoke pine needles, and this beer delivers a fruity flavour with a distinct hoppy bitterness and notes of passion fruit, grapefruit and pine.

Match with:
Pino Silvestre EDT. This fragrance is rich in pine needle notes – a complex classic housed in its authentic 1955 bottle design. The top notes feature citrus, juniper and lavender, transitioning into spicy heart notes of cumin and clove, before settling into a deeper base of musk and pine needles.
3 fonteinen oude kriek – floris cherry blossom edp
In the glass:
The opposite approach is beer made with actual fruit. Lambic beers are often flavoured with fruit, most commonly cherries, added during barrel ageing to initiate a second fermentation. 3 FONTEINEN OUDE KRIEK is one such beer, where whole cherries — flesh and pit alike — create a distinctly fermented, pure cherry character.

Match with:
Floris Cherry Blossom EDP, inspired by the centuries-old Japanese tradition of celebrating cherry blossom season. Top notes of citrus and pink pepper blend with florals resting on a base of musk and sandalwood.
aecht schlenkerla rauchbier – molton brown russian leather
In the glass:
A completely different story is AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER, a traditional bottom-fermented lager brewed with smoked malt, giving it a naturally smoky character. The flavours are balanced by sweet undertones, hints of bitter orange and a salinity reminiscent of tanned leather.
Match with:
Molton Brown Russian Leather EDT. A masculine and intriguing fragrance with notes of leather, woods and smoky tobacco, evoking warm memories of a crackling campfire.
dugges stillwater artisanal mango mango mango – xerjoff cruz del sur ii edp
In the glass:
What happens when flavour additions are taken to the extreme? In DUGGES STILLWATER ARTISANAL MANGO MANGO MANGO (yes, that’s the name), two different mango varieties are combined with additional mango notes from Mosaic hops. Unsurprisingly, mango dominates the tart flavour, but attentive drinkers may also detect hints of jasmine blossom and citrus.
Match with:
Xerjoff Shooting Stars Cruz Del Sur II EDP offers a slightly sweeter pairing, where mango once again dominates alongside exotic fruits and florals on a base of woods and musk. Naming a beer Mango Mango Mango may seem unusual, but once you understand why, it makes perfect sense — much like the name “Shooting Stars”, inspired by a fragment of meteorite embedded in the bottle cap.
red robot dipa – creed aventus edp
In the glass:
Last, but certainly not least — and perhaps the most complex beer of them all. RED ROBOT DIPA is brewed with barley, oats, rye and wheat malt, along with passion fruit, pineapple and hops. This creates powerful top notes of passion fruit, pineapple and grapefruit, resting on a base of light bread and gently bitter herbs.
Match with:
Creed Aventus EDP, the royalty of perfumes — or rather the emperor, considering that the House of Creed drew inspiration from the life of Napoleon. Blackcurrant, bergamot, Calville Blanc apples and pineapple meet woods, florals, spices and herbs in a complex and masterfully composed fragrance, and one of our most beloved creations.
