Take Care of Your Safety Razor

4 Simple Tips

A good-quality razor can last a lifetime if you take proper care of it. Here are four tips to keep your safety razor in top condition.

1

Clean your razor every day or after each use. Rinse it off and try to remove as much residue as possible. It’s especially important to get rid of lather and old beard hair from the razor, otherwise it can build up in a thick layer between the parts and make the razor difficult to use. To really get into all areas, you can take the razor apart and rinse all the pieces under running water.

2

At least once every six months, you should disassemble and clean your razor with some type of degreasing agent to remove dead skin cells that have built up on the razor. A good dish soap works very well for this together with an old toothbrush.

3

Disinfect the razor when needed, especially if you’ve found an old gem on Tradera. Don’t forget to remove the blade first, as disinfecting will make the razor blade dull.

4

Replace the razor blade regularly before it becomes too worn out. That way, you also put less strain on your razor. Keep in mind never to rinse the blade in water that is too hot, as higher temperatures affect the hardening and therefore the sharpness and lifespan of the blade.
