Hexensalbe is a dark floral fragrance with green, spicy undertones, composed by perfumer Anna Barkne, rooted in the botanical world of witchcraft.
Hexensalbe, also known as the witches’ “flying ointment,” was a hallucinogenic salve used in witchcraft during the Middle Ages. It was a mixture of extremely toxic ingredients where the drug induced an ecstatic trance with strong sensations of flying, visions of extraterrestrial beings, and an intense sexual drive. These hallucinations are the core of the witches’ mythology, where they fly to the sabbath at Blåkulla to meet with the devil and other witches in magical, dark rites.
