Autumn perfumes
- with a twist of rum
Written by GlenN lauritz andersson & denis vasilije, fragrance experts
Many of us probably recognize that we sometimes need to feel a little warmth and comfort when autumn sets in. And why not treat yourself to a little warm luxury feeling with a suitable perfume for the season? Because autumn scents don't have to be about moss, spices and wood - creaminess, sweetness and a little decadent “booziness” can be delicious in the autumn darkness. Here we present some autumn perfumes that use the ingredient rum as a consistent scent note.

Xerjoff – Tony Iommi Monkey Special
This now fairly well-established upstart from Italian Xerjoff - a collaboration between Black Sabbath's legendary guitarist Tony Iommi and the brand's founder Sergio Momo - has already had a sequel in the form of the darker, leather-based Tony Iommi Deified, but here we choose to highlight the debut fragrance, which stands out with its warm combination of boozy rum, caramel and leather, a combo that almost borders on whiskey. It is a gourmand that is both macho in the best heavy metal style and at the same time cozy warming and elegant. If you get tired in the fall darkness, this jaw-dropper will definitely wake you up.
Fragrance Du Bois – Voyage à Paris
It's hard to find a more beautiful unisex fragrance than this masterpiece from luxury Parisian brand Fragrance du Bois to wear on a harsh, bitter fall evening, or why not at the party during the winter months. Because we're talking dressed up and sophisticated but also seductive and embracing. A brilliant opening of orange blossom combined with creamy rum against a dark base of oud and vanilla is all it takes to show how rum can unexpectedly spread pleasure in a perfume, but no one could do it better than Fragrance du Bois at this level.
Les Indemodables – Vanille Havane Edp
Vanille Havane is probably French Les Indemodables' most successful and sought-after creation and it's no wonder because this is a gourmand that excels with its well-balanced ingredients and pure oils. Here too we encounter a decadent, boozy note of rum, which in the opening is accompanied by Madagascar vanilla and then goes on over cocoa, dried fruit (which gives warm aromatic elements) and leather to then unexpectedly turn into a pure tobacco scent in the finish - a strange twist in itself. Wonderful as an assessoar throughout the winter season or evening all year round, but especially nice when the autumn darkness comes.
plume impression – royal bourbon
It is easy to forget that rum can add a luxurious and elegant twist to a gourmand fragrance. In Plume Impressions Royal Bourbon, it couldn't be clearer. The brand is known for its elegant unisex fragrances, which often feel dressed up and sophisticated, and this is also reflected when, as in this case, they release a gourmand. It doesn't get any more formal and festive than this. Creamy, boozy and like a piece of jewellery on the skin.
QOT – an affair
Question of Time has quickly gained attention for its distinctive compositions and diversity. They have everything from fresh marine-inspired fragrances to fruity and truly edible gourmands. A more balanced gourmand is An Affair, where Italian panettone cake is nicely balanced with rum and cardamom. Perfect for those who don't want to smell like a bakery but still want a tantalising hint of rum and sweetness combined with spices to warm up in the autumn darkness.
