To shave or not to shave the holiday beard

After an extended period of leave, it is common for men to grow a so-called holiday beard. It is usually characterized by a wildly growing beard with crooked lines that are shaved off as soon as they return to work. But why should the beard have to go just because fall is coming?

Holidays are for relaxation. The otherwise boring daily routines are put on hold and we start eating in front of the TV, sleeping half the day away and have one or two drinks to many. The man who prefers a clean shave suddenly appears with stubble, the man who used to have a long handsome beard looks almost unkempt.

We can all agree that you probably need to do something about it before you can get back to normal. However, that doesn't mean you have to shave it all off if you've finally managed to save your beard. If you want to keep your holiday beard, take the opportunity to clean it up and do something proper with it. To help you out, here are 5 tips on how to get your holiday beard in order!

1CHOOSE THE RIGHT BEARD style

If you have a larger or thicker beard, use a good trimmer to shape it. Try to see which beard design suits your face shape. Read more about how to choose a beard design here.

2clean

Start with the routine of massaging a little scrub through your beard into your skin a couple of times a week to remove dead skin cells. Use a beard shampoo a few days a week to deep clean your beard and remove oil residues and dirt.

3trim

Another variant is to simply trim the length down to a five-day stubble, but please note that you have to trim the edges. And this will not work if your beard is white or very fair (then it just blends with the skin and looks unkempt). You can fix nice lines with, for example, a shavette and keep the mustache line with the trimmers or with a good pair of scissors so that it does not grow below the upper lip.

4keep the neck clean

Keep your neck clean-shaven - it makes a huge difference to the impression and distinguishes the unshaven tramp from the distinguished bearded man. Use a safety razor (see below on shaving) for a clean and skin-friendly result, especially as the skin on the neck is thin and easily irritated.

5Nourish

Moisturize and nourish the beard and the skin underneath with a moisturising beard oil and then distribute it thoroughly into the beard hairs and the underlying skin with a coarse beard brush. Then shape the beard with Sailor's Soft Beard wax so that the styling is precise.
