Follicopeptide®
New research reveals a “super peptide” against hair loss
Summary
- Non-hormonal peptide developed in Sweden that stimulates hair growth topically.
- Clinical studies show ~70% response rate and increased hair density after 4–6 months.
- Suitable for men and women seeking an alternative to finasteride or minoxidil.
Follicopeptide® is a Swedish-developed, non-hormonal peptide complex applied directly to the scalp to stimulate hair growth. It is based on many years of research at Lund University and has since been further developed within Swedish biotechnology.
What is it?
Follicopeptide® consists of a synthetically produced peptide (with no animal or human origin) that targets the tissue surrounding the hair follicle — not the hormonal drivers behind hair loss. It is applied daily, left on overnight, and works entirely topically, meaning it does not affect hormone levels or other parts of the body.
How does it work?
Scientists identified an active sequence from a naturally occurring growth protein called osteopontin and modified it to penetrate skin and reach the follicles. The peptide binds to specific receptors (neuropilin-1) in the scalp and activates signalling pathways believed to improve blood flow and the supportive tissue around the follicles. This creates a better environment for hair to grow and thicken.
What does the research say?
- Several studies have been conducted — five in total, including one larger study involving more than 200 men with androgenetic alopecia.
- In this study, a response rate of approximately 70% was reported after around four months, with an average increase in hair density of 5–6 hairs per cm².
- Hair-shaft thickness also improved according to image analysis, even though it was not quantitatively measured.
- The treatment was applied daily and improvements became most visible between month 4 and month 6 — aligning with natural hair-growth cycles.
- Safety studies show good tolerability — no serious side effects were reported and the treatment is non-hormonal.
Who is it for, and how is it used?
The product is suitable for individuals seeking a topical (meaning applied to the skin locally) alternative to hormonal or systemic treatments (which affect the entire body) for hair loss — suitable for both men and women. The most important factor is consistent use: apply once daily (about 0.5 mL per 10×10 cm of scalp) and leave on overnight. Expect clearer results after 4–6 months.
How Follicopeptide® compares with traditional treatments
The following matrix provides an overview of how Follicopeptide® compares with two common hair-loss treatments — Finasteride (pill) and Minoxidil (topical solution). The matrix is not exact science for every value but reflects available studies and indications to give you a clear snapshot.
| Parameter | Follicopeptide® | Finasteride | Minoxidil |
| Response rate* | ~70% (according to preliminary data) | ~40% (typical response) | ~40–50% depending on study |
| Increase in hair density | +5–6 hairs/cm² after approx. 4 months (preliminary) | Slower effect; often after 6–12 months | Often visible after 4–6 months but less pronounced |
| Hair-shaft thickness | Increase observed in imaging | Moderate increase, varies between individuals | Some increase, but generally less significant |
| Administration | Topical (applied on scalp) | Oral tablet | Topical solution or foam |
| Hormonal effect | None (non-hormonal) | Hormonal (affects DHT) | Generally non-hormonal (improves blood flow) |
| Safety profile | Vegan, synthetic, topical – minimal systemic impact | May cause sexual side effects and hormone disruption | Local irritation common; systemic effects less frequent |
| Key success factor | Consistent daily use | Regular long-term intake | Regular application over time |
